An Interview with Christina Serzan, PT, DPT.

Christina Serzan, PT, DPT has been working at Physical Therapy Services for over 10 years. Christie began working as an aide as a freshman in high school. She continued on with college and grad school, returning to work at Physical Therapy Services as a full-time physical therapist. She wanted to remain close to the Pompton Plains area where she familiar with many people.

We asked Christie a few questions about her career in physical therapy.

Why did you become a physical therapist?

--- I became a physical therapist because I loved watching my mom, Debbie, at work at Physical Therapy Services as a kid. I grew up competitively dancing at a local dance studio, and whenever a dancer was hurt my mom was always the first to the scene to look at him/her. I always wanted to come back and work the local dancers and give them the best physical therapy in our Pompton Plains area.

What is your favorite part about being a physic therapist?

--- I enjoy meeting different types of people and hearing their stories. Many patients come from different background and bring something to offer. I get to work with patients from young children to older adults. There is a huge variety of conditions we can treat, and I hope to help as many patients as I can!

What would you say to a student interested in pursuing a career in physical therapy?

--- I would tell him/her to volunteer and/or shadow prior to deciding to go into physical therapy. Physical Therapy school is a long path, and not an easy one. I definitely want them to be sure they want to join the awesome field of physical therapy.

What is one piece of advice you would give your younger self?

--- Always remember that you never know what other people are going through! Not everyone tells others what they are going through. If you treat people with kindness, respect, and care, it will pay off in the long run.
