Erick Jackowsky, PT, DPT has been working in physical therapy for over 35 years. Erick opened Physical Therapy Services in Pompton Plains to help his local community reach their health goals. He has worked in many different settings of physical therapy in the Pompton Plains areas, including the hospital and home health settings. He previously has worked with DePaul Catholic High School athletic teams teaching them sports and injury prevention techniques.
We asked Erick a few questions about his career in physical therapy.
Why did you become a physical therapist?
--- I became a physical therapist because I would be directly helping people improve their life. From athletic injuries to post operative rehabilitation, many different type of people could benefit from learning a skill set to improve their lives.
What is your favorite part about being a physic therapist?
--- I enjoy being a part of the process to help patients care for themselves. It is extremely gratifying to help a person live and independent life and get them back to what they love to do!
What would you say to a student interested in pursuing a career in physical therapy?
--- I would tell him/her not to focus on one specific area of physical therapy from the start. There is a great cross between all aspects of physical therapy. You never know when you are going to need to use your pediatric techniques in an outpatient physical therapy setting, or use basic mobility training with older adults.
What is one piece of advice you would give your younger self?
--- Treat people the way you would want to be treated if the role was reversed. You never know who you are going to meet or what they are going through in life. It is always a good idea to treat them the way you would treat your family member or want to be treated yourself!
